What is Turf Toe?

Taking part in some sports activities can result in a sprain injury, known as turf toe, due to the excessive upward bending of the joint in the big toe, especially during sports activities.

The jamming of the toe or the continuous pushing off when jumping or running can cause it to worsen.

It is best to rest it and use turf toe taping to reduce the pain and pressure on the toe.

We believe the best treatment for turf toe is rest. Exercising or taking part in sports activities too soon could make the injury much worse. Book an appointment with us today to give you the best solution to make a speedy recovery.

Turf toe exercises

At Barefeet Podiatry, we can advise you on the right turf toe exercises to help the sprain heal. This will improve its flexibility and build up strength in the toe.

Turf toe straps or turf toe taping

To help the foot rest, we may prescribe a turf toe strap or turf toe taping to help reduce the tension on the toe. It will also limit the movement of the toe allowing it to have time to heal. You can also get a turf toe brace which works in a similar way.

Footwear advice

We recommend that you change your footwear into something that reduces the amount of movement supporting your foot. This can be as simple as trainers. Take a look at our website to see the best types of trainers for your feet.
